Linda McMahon confirmation hearing set for Tuesday

Linda McMahon 's confirmation hearing for the top post in the Small Business Administration has been scheduled for Tuesday.

McMahon, 68, will appear before the Senate Small Business Committee beginning at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to be introduced by the two men she lost to in fierce U.S. Senate campaigns in 2010 and 2012: Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy.

President-elect Donald Trump named McMahon as his nominee to run the SBA in December, calling her a "phenomenal leader and champion for small business" who would "unleash America's entrepreneurial spirit all across the country."

A Republican from Greenwich, McMahon donated millions of dollars to a super PAC supporting Trump's campaign and her family has a long-standing relationship with the president-elect. Before getting involved in politics McMahon was an executive with the WWE, the Stamford-based wrestling and entertainment company she ran with her husband, Vince.

Blumenthal and Murphy ran aggressive campaigns against McMahon, but were complementary of her when Trump released her name for the SBA job, a cabinet-level appointment that requires Senate confirmation.

"She's unquestionably qualified for this job," Murphy said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" earlier this month. "She turned a small business into a big multinational business, which is what a lot of small businesses want to become. She is also a Connecticut Republican ... so she's bringing I think some important moderate values to the administration."
