Ollie has no plans to pursue NBA coaching job
For the second straight spring, UConn coach Kevin Ollie is the subject of NBA coaching rumors.
Ollie, who ended his professional career as a reserve guard for Oklahoma City, issued a statement this morning in an attempt to squash the rumors and speculation.
“As I have said many times, I am proud and honored to be the head basketball coach at the University of Connecticut and I have no plans to pursue other opportunities.
“We are already excited about next season and I am looking forward to preparing our team to be the best we can be on the court, in the classroom, and in our community.”
Ollie made that statement only hours before Oklahoma City announced it fired coach Scott Brooks. Florida's Billy Donovan is reportedly a prime candidate for the job.
Ollie has strong ties to Oklahoma City. He's a former teammate of Kevin Durant, who's a big fan of Ollie, and has a good relationship with the general manager.
So while Ollie has "no plans to pursue other opportunities," his name will continue to surface in the NBA rumor mill.
