UConn sweeps major AAC women's basketball awards
Mohegan – UConn swept the major American Athletic Conference women’s basketball awards Friday afternoon when Breanna Stewart was named Player of the Year, Kia Nurse the Freshman of the Year and Geno Auriemma the Coach of the Year during a ceremony prior to the start of the AAC tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Stewart was selected Player of the Year for the second straight year after averaging 17.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Nurse averaged 10.9 points and 3.3 assists per game during the regular season and Auriemma, now in his 30
th
season, guided the Huskies to a 29-1 record, the nation’s No. 1 ranking, a a perfect 18-0 record in the AAC.
The Huskies received a first round bye and will play the winner of tonight’s Cincinnati-South Florida game in Saturday’s quarterfinals at approximately 2 p.m.
