Note-Worthy online Auction in Support of Community Music School June 2 - 6!
Sunday, Jun. 6, 2021, 8:00 amMusic
Community Music School, 90 Main Street, Centerbrook, , 06409
The Community Music School proudly reports that it continued to make music throughout its 2020-2021 school year, despite the unique challenges posed by COVID-19.
Most importantly, the school safely conducted 5,000 in-person private lessons and over 2,500 virtual music lessons. In addition, its two largest musical ensembles rehearsed throughout the year, and a full slate of in-person workshops and programs are planned for this summer.
As a non-profit organization, 65% of the funding for the school’s musical education and appreciation activities comes from tuition, while the rest is raised by generous donations from community-minded donors.
Community members and friends are invited to support the Community Music School’s spring fundraiser: its first-ever “Note-worthy” online auction June 2-6. Over 50 items will be available for easy online bidding: experiences, jewelry, gift certificates galore, a clambake and more. Details are available at www.cmsct.org/auction.

University of Saint Joseph, 1678 Asylum Ave, West Hartford, , 06117
Iraqi composer and multi-instrumentalist Ameen Mokdad was trapped in hiding by ISIS for two years in his hometown of Mosul. During that time he wrote an extraordinary repertoire of powerful and emotional music. He arranged it later for string quartet, while he himself plays violin, various middle eastern percussion instruments, recites poetry, and sings. The 19 songs on this album form a soundscape that transverses a range of emotions: fear, defeat, hope, and rebirth.
