RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hands-on leadership role with one direct report
  • Aligns workforce with company goals to optimize organizational effectiveness
  • Instrumental in leading talent development including acquiring, developing and retaining talent
  • Develops and administers human resources policies, programs and services
  • Assures that company policies, personnel, and equal opportunity practices comply with the applicable provisions of federal and state laws.

  • Assists with the annual 401k and pension audits

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. degree, with a concentration in Human Resources or related business field.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in Human Resources with at least 2 years’ supervisory experience
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communications and relationship building skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of local, state and federal employment law
  • Demonstrated experience with benefits administration
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and payroll software; proficient with Excel

CRIMINAL JUSTICE REPORTER

Position Description:

  • Check daily with police and fire.

Information Technology

APPLICATION SPECIALIST/IT SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

Position Description:

  • This position entails working alongside other Information Technology staff members to diagnose and resolve end-user issues and provide application and infrastructure support. Support issues may be related to PC, Mac or printer hardware; may be related to administration of various enterprise level systems including Adbooking, Ad Production using the Adobe suite of products, and financial systems. Will require some knowledge of MS Exchange, Active Directory, Office365, Kaspersky Antivirus, data backup and recovery methods, VMware, or other business-critical systems across The Day’s various divisions.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years professional experience with a strong knowledge of TCP/IP, and configuration, installation and troubleshooting of Windows 10 and Office365.
  • Proven ability to document actions, processes and procedures. Must be able to prepare, coordinate and support user training and documentation and provide technical assistance for post-implementation support issues.
  • Experience configuring, installing and supporting laptops, desktops, printers, scanners, iOS and Android based smartphones and tablets.
  • 24x7 on call support and continuing education in relevant IT fields will be required.
  • College degree in the field of computer science or information systems, or 2+ years in the Information Technology field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills; keen attention to detail; proven analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Shore Publishing, LLC – Madison, CT

Position Description:

  • Responsible for layout and design of print and digital materials for the Advertising Department and in-house marketing/promotion.
  • Layout and design advertisements & speculative ads to advertisers’ and account executives’ specifications.
  • Provide creative consultation to the advertising sales team and customers.
  • Meet deadlines pertinent to production schedules.
  • Layout and design other materials to manager’s specifications.
  • Participate in ongoing creative and software training.
  • Provide feedback and participate in cross training to acquire new skills and keep up with production issues.
  • Work in a team environment with other designers, advertising account executives & managers.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of the advertising department in both Madison and New London offices.

Qualifications Required:

  • Strong proficiency with the latest Adobe Creative Suite products.
  • Solid knowledge of, and experience with, print and online ad production.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as an open attitude for taking creative direction.
  • Ability to effectively carry out multitask operations/projects, prioritize and meet deadlines in high-paced deadline driven environment is essential.

Motor Route Driver
The Day is currently accepting applications for motor route drivers for the towns of Groton and Mystic. A valid driver's license, a good driving record, proof of insurance, and a reliable vehicle is required. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. Excellent pay, early morning hours.

ADVERTISING

Automotive and Real Estate Marketing Specialist

Position Description:

  • The Automotive and Real Estate Marketing Specialist calls on Auto Dealerships along with real estate companies and independent sales agents
  • Develop and sell the complete compliment of Day products and services including print, digital, contests and promotions
  • Create effective professional sales presentations providing relevant and compelling information to advertisers in a consultative manner
  • Work to build strong relationships within the local automotive and real estate and business community.
  • Salary plus commission plan.

MULTIMEDIA SALES ASSISTANT

Position Description:

  • Assist Account Executives by providing sales support as necessary.
  • Work in team environment with Multimedia Sales Executives, Creative Services, and Digital Services to support the sales effort and provide backup.
  • Answer department phones and direct calls to appropriate person, or assist clients as needed.
  • Service walk-in customers in the absence of Account Executives.
  • Perform other activities as necessary.

AD TRAFFIC COORDINATOR

Position Description:

  • Responsible for coordinating the production of print ads, online ads and special sections while adhering to all deadlines.
  • Responsible for the prioritization and distribution of work to designers and managing the status of this work in a database.
  • Processing third party electronic ads and conducting pre-flight checks.
  • Assist with the processing of direct pickup ads and copy changes.
  • Assist with handling ad issues, questions and requests within the department and with customers.
  • Work in a team environment with graphic designers, account executives and advertising managers.

The Day, an independent media company in eastern Connecticut, is seeking an experienced journalist to reimagine our opinion page for the 21st Century and beyond.

This editor will write editorials and oversee freelance contributors, as well as solicit commentary from community members and officials.

The successful applicant will develop a strategy to engage our audience through newsletters, podcasts, forums and other ways.

This position is considered part of our leadership team and is compensated accordingly.
