Stage tip: "Fireflies" at Long Wharf
Stage tip
Fireflies
Long Wharf Theatre, New Haven
Go to “Fireflies” to bask in the glorious acting talent of Jane Alexander and Judith Ivey. Don't go, though, expecting anything exceptional from the story, which is a clichéd take on the trope of a lonely woman being reawakened to life thanks to a roguish charmer. Even so, the script by Matthew Barber (based on Annette Sanford’s writings) does bubble with funny dialogue. Ivey, as Alexander’s chatty, nosy neighbor, takes full advantage of any comic lines; she's a hilarious scene-stealer. Tickets for “Fireflies,” which runs through Sunday at Long Wharf Theatre, are $34.50-$90.50. Call (203) 787-4282.
