Pat Metheny hits The Kate for two shows
Sometimes, you've just got to let the online thesaurus do the work.
For example, if I go to Google and type in "Pat Metheny synonym," here's what comes up: "Greatest jazz guitarist alive"; "stunningly creative musical visionary"; "gasp-inducing talent"; "artist dazzling in his ability to honor the musical past and carve a path into the future" ...
Oh, and my favorite: "Along with keyboardist Lyle Mays, the guy behind 'As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls,' which is an album Rick Koster has listened to perhaps more than any other record in the world."
Metheny plays and explores so many styles and in so many artistic combinations that it's hard to keep track. It's always great, though — whatever he's doing. Here's something to take advantage of: Metheny and his new band Side Eye — up-and-coming talents James Francies (keyboards/piano) and Nate Smith (drums) — come to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center for shows Monday and Tuesday.
See and hear the sounds of musical immortality.
Pat Metheny Side Eye, 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $75-$82; (860) 510-0453.
