Russian Ballet Theatre brings a new production of “Swan Lake” to the Garde Arts Center on Saturday.

This is based on the oldest St. Petersburg version of the piece, but choreographer Nadezhda Kalinina infuses it with her own vision.

It’s a given that the dancing will be superb, but the impressive visuals will extend beyond that, thanks to hand-painted sets and hand-sewn costumes, designed by Sergei Novikov. There will also be some special effects makeup by Irina Strukova, who has worked for Netflix, HBO and on the movie “Crazy Rich Asians.”

A side note: Russian Ballet Theatre partners with PLUS1, an initiative that connects artists with causes. Via that, $1 from each ticket sold for this show will help teachers and their classroom projects in public schools in New London and the surrounding areas through DonorsChoose.org.

Russian Ballet Theatre performs “Swan Lake,” 8 p.m. Saturday, Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; $35-$69; (860) 443-7373.
