There are bands whose "complete package" qualities – persona, attitude, beat-driven music, demographics-of-followers, compulsion-to-inebriation – qualifies them as must-have entertainment at Halloween time.

Around here, the ongoing progressive-ska experiment called The Hempsteadys is THAT band. In that fashion, and because Halloween is on a Sunday, The Hempsteadys will play Saturday at 33 Golden Street in New London – allowing all of Sunday for folks to recover from the show. Adding to the excitement is the fact that it's the group's first hometown appearance in two years. Horns of Ormus and Mo Nikilz appear in support.

Rise, then, from your coffins and make your way into the heart of downtown New London for this celebration. Costumes are strongly encouraged. It'll be a night you'll either totally not remember – or never forget! Probably, in that magical way, both.

The Hempsteadys, 9 p.m. Saturday, 33 Golden St., 33 Golden St., New London; $10; (860) 443-1193.
