Daughtry plays Mohegan Sun on Saturday

    Chris Daughtry (Amy Harris, Invision/AP)

Chris Daughtry had to cancel his band’s Nov. 14 concert at Mohegan Sun Arena for a tragic reason: His 25-year-old daughter, who had struggled with mental illness, committed suicide days earlier.

After a period of mourning (and undoubtedly the mourning is ongoing), Daughtry is now doing his previously postponed concerts, including the one at the Sun.

The rock band Daughtry will be onstage at the Sun on Saturday, no doubt mixing some of their newest singles, like “World On Fire” and “Heavy Is the Crown,” in with older hits.

It’s amazing to think that it’s been more than 15 years since Chris Daughtry became a national figure on “American Idol.” And it's been more than 15 years since the band Daughtry saw its debut album, released in 2006, hit #1 on the Billboard 200.

Since then, the group has continued to be consistently good recording artists and an always-popular concert act.

Daughtry, 7 p.m. Saturday, Mohegan Sun Arena; Plush opens; $29.50-$59.50; mohegansun.com.
