Naval Submarine School graduates three classes

Groton— Three classes recently graduated from the Naval Submarine School.

Thirty-seven sailors of “Class 11060” graduated from the Submarine Electronics Computer Field Apprentice course on June 23. Seaman Apprentice Christopher Bynum was class honorman. Seaman Kuis Cabrera, Seaman Darrell Hicks and Seaman Apprentice Christopher Meraz were graduates with distinction. Bynum, Seaman Apprentice Richard Putthoff and Seaman Cody Dunlap were meritoriously advanced.

Twenty members of “Class 11020” graduated from the Submarine Officer Advanced Course on June 24. Lt. Matthew Beach, USS Oklahoma City (SSN-723), was the class honor graduate and received the L. Y. Spear Award. Lt. Russell Jones, USS Missouri (SSN-780), received the David Lloyd Award for Excellence.

Lt. Daniel Morrison, USS Ohio (SSGN-726) (Gold), received the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Award. Beach and Morrison were Graduates with Distinction. Lt. Heath Brown received the SOAC Outstanding Instructor Award.

Seventy-nine sailors, “Class 11300/11310,” USS Wahoo (SS-238), graduated from Basic Enlisted Submarine School June 30. Seaman Christopher Dietz was class honorman. Seaman Jesse Olstad received the Submarine League’s William Purdum Award for most improved student. Seaman Andrew O’Brien received the Navy League Award for his academic efforts and Fireman Apprentice Robert Jones received the Submarine Veterans Heritage Award as class leader. Seaman Apprentice Alfredo Jaramillo was meritoriously advanced.

Firemen Recruit Jacob Holliday, Seaman Apprentice Darien Edmonds, Seaman Recruit Taylor Thompson, Seaman Recruit William Atchison, Seaman James Forstall, Yeoman Third Class Petty Officer David Copeland, Seaman Recruit Justin Carpenter, Seaman Apprentice Moises Lomeli, Seaman Recruit Kevin Lozano, Seaman Apprentice Robert Koontz, Seaman Christian Cooper, Seaman Jeremy Reinhold, Seaman Apprentice James Bolt, Fireman Ehab Osman, Machinist’s Mate Third Class Petty Officer Craig Luckert and Seaman Daniel Oliver, together with Olstad, Jaramillo and Dietz, were named graduates with distinction.
