Sculpture show opens in Ivoryton

Sculptors are distinctive folk. For example, Alexandros of Antioch created the Venus de Milo and Auguste Rodin crafted The Thinker. But Venus doesn't have any arms, so if Alexandros had instead sculpted The Thinker, the statue's head would fall over because he'd have no arms to support his "thinky" pose. Not good.

Instead, let's ponder some contemporary works: a new juried exhibition by members of the New England Sculptors Association, opening Wednesday at the Six Summit Gallery in Ivoryton. Art historian/author Pamela Allera is the juror. Show runs through Aug. 31 with a reception from 7-11 p.m. Aug. 10. Hours 11:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Wed. and Thurs., 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Fri., 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sat., noon-5 p.m. Sun. (860) 581-8332,
