Jury selection begins in Norwich murder case
Jury selection is under way in New London Superior Court in the murder case of Kevin S. Bialowas, who is accused of intentionally running over a man with his pickup truck.
Bialowas, 48, of Lisbon, is charged with murder and evading responsibility in connection with the death of 33-year-old Stephen A. Germano in Norwich on July 14, 2009. Police said he purposefully struck Germano at the intersection of Elm Avenue and East Town Street during a dispute involving Bialowas’ female passenger. Germano died six days after the incident of blunt traumatic injuries.
In opting for a trial, Bialowas rejected an offer from the state to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in exchange for a 15-year prison sentence. The trial is tentatively scheduled to begin Sept. 24 before Judge Arthur C. Hadden and is anticipated to last about two weeks. Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Stephen L. Carney is prosecuting the case and attorney John E. Franckling is representing Bialowas.
