Local roundup: Bristol's Dufour wins Niantic Bay Half-Marathon

East Lyme - Bristol's Jason Dufour cruised to an easy victory on Sunday in the Niantic Bay Half-Marathon.

Dufour, 39, finished in 1 hour, 19 minutes and 24 seconds to beat the runnerup, Dimitry Karlin of New York, by close to two minutes. Karlin finished in 1:21.05 on a course that started and finished at Rocky Neck State Park.

Cassie-Ryan Rasmuss, 29, of Quaker Hill, was the top female finisher. She placed 11th overall in 1:29.07. The top local male finisher was New London's Casey Niestat, who wound up fifth overall in 1:24.44.

Other local runners finishing in the top 25 were Groton's Jeffrey Opila (9th, 1:27.14), Old Lyme's David Walker (22nd, 1:33.17) and Waterford's David Blair (25th, 1:34.14).

In the 5K race, Niantic's Casey Spencer, 23, captured first place in 18:03, more than a minute ahead of runnerup Charl Van Heerden of New Haven (19:10).

Guilford's Robin Troy was the top female finisher, placing fifth overall in 20:20.

Other local runners in the top 25 were Norwich's Gabriel Sa (6th, 20:34), Gales Ferry's Michael Brown (7th, 20:51), Mystic's Mac Orodonio (16th, 21:51), Niantic's Jon Nelson (17th, 21:55), Norwich's Billy Shea (19th, 22:06) and Niantic's Dave Jacobs (25th, 22:15).

The two races attracked more than 800 runners.

Men's soccer

• Williams School scored an own goal late in the first half to break a scoreless tie and the Ephs went on to defeat Connecticut College 3-0 in the New England Small College Conference. Williams is 5-0-1, 4-0-1 while the Camels fall to 1-2-2, 0-2-2.

Women's soccer

• Andrea Plucenik scored the game-winner in the 106th minute to give UConn a 2-1 double overtime victory over Villanova in the Big East. Riley Houle also scored the for the Huskies (6-4-1, 2-2).

• Alison Magruder scored in the 82nd minute to give Williams a 1-0 victory over Conn College in the NESCAC. The goal came only moments after Conn goalie Amy Lowitt made a great diving save following a free kick by Caitlyn Clark. Lowitt finished with five saves for Conn (0-4-1, 0-4). Williams is 4-2, 4-0.

College field hockey

• Williams scored a pair of first-half goals and cruised to a 3-0 win over Conn College in the NESCAC. The Camels fell to 3-2, 2-2).

• Louisa Boddy scored her fifth goal of the seven with just under five minutes remaining to give No. 5 UConn a 1-0 win over Villanova in the Big East. The Huskies (9-0, 2-0) survived despite outshooting the Wildcats 28-1.

Prep football

• Bill Everett ran four times for 57 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as St. Thomas More lost to Gunnery on Saturday, 37-35. Jaleel Reed completed 7 of 12 passes for 109 yards and scored on a punt return for T-More (0-1). Reggie Guanichaux added two catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Men's water polo

• Carlos Hero scored 15 goals in three games over the weekend, but Conn College lost all three contests, falling to Brown (15-7), St. Francis (16-10) and Harvard (14-9). The Camels are 1-6.

College sailing

• Conn College's 18th-ranked co-ed team placed 10th in the St. Mary's College (Md.) Fall Intersectional with 342 points. Roger Williams won the event with 213. Evan Martland, IG Schottlaender, Gracy Medley and Ellis Tonissi teamd up to finish 11th in the A division while Pearson Potts, Benjamin Meyers and Steph Kapinos were seventh in the B division.

• In another co-ed competition, Conn placed 16th in the Hood Trophy Regatta at Tufts as Tim Clark and Kim Bolick were 15th in the A division and Jordan Bothwick and Katie Andril were 16th in the B division.

• Conn's eighth-ranked women's team finished 13th in the Regis Bowl Regatta at Boston University as Alexandra Romagnoli and Leah Bevins were 13th in the A division and Liz Dubovik and Lea Bushnell were eighth in the B division.
