UCONN PLANS TO TEST EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM ON TUESDAY
The University of Connecticut will test its emergency notification system on the Storrs campus at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9.
The test involves activating the alert banner on UConn webpages, the voice and strobe functions of the campus blue phones, and the outside siren/emergency public address system. Text messages and an email alert will also be sent to the Storrs campus community and posted on UConn's Facebook page and Twitter feed.
The test should take no more than 20 minutes, during which time the alert will also appear on certain flat-panel display screens on campus.
Smartphone users who have downloaded the university's official mobile app, myUConn, can also check for alerts during the test.
In an actual emergency, information will be available at http://alert.uconn.edu.
Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to visit the alert site to register for cellphone text alerts. To download the myUConn mobile app, visit myuconn.edu.
