Smallpox Cemetery Guided Hike

Learn about the epidemic of smallpox in the 18th century and Madison's heroes during the French and Indian War. On Saturday, March 23, join a hike to the historic pock lot, under the protection of the Madison Historical Society.

This unique program includes presenters Joel Helander, Guilford town historian, and Lyle Cubberly, French and Indian War historian. The program ends with an exterior visit to the circa 1765 town pest house, now privately owned.

Participants must check in at the I-95 Exit 59 commuter lot on Goose Lane, Guilford, to participate. The historical society asks that persons arrive before
9 a.m. The program runs from 9 to 11 a.m. Participants will depart the commuter lot in individual participants' cars, promptly at 9 a.m.

The cost is $5 per person and free for Madison Historical Society members and children under 12. Please bring sturdy weather-appropriate shoes, bug spray, and a walking stick (if needed). Rain date is Saturday, March 30.
