New London Post Office to open early with new Harbor Light stamps

New London – Stamp collectors and fans of the New London Harbor Light won't have to wait for today's 10 a.m. stamp unveiling ceremony at the Custom House Maritime Museum to get the new lighthouse stamp and related commemorative items.

The New London Post Office at 27 Masonic St. will open at 8 a.m. and will be selling the new stamps and several related items not available at the ceremonial unveiling and sales tent. The post office will have special first-day covers with colorful cancellations, note cards depicting the stamp image and limited numbers of uncut press sheets of the stamps. It will be open till 1 p.m.

The U.S. Postal Service will unveil the stamp at the official ceremony with Postal Service Vice President Rick Uluski and New London Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio. The stamps also will be available for purchase after the ceremony at a tent at the Custom House at 150 Bank part of the Sailfest activities.
