An 18-year veteran of the East Haven Fire Department is the town's newest fire marshal.
Mark Nimons, who became an East Haven firefighter in December of 1995, was sworn in as fire marshal, filling the position that was previously occupied by Anthony Moscato, who retired.
Mayor Joseph Maturo, Jr., said, of the new fire marshal, "[Nimons] has great credentials and competed against five other very well-qualified people," continued Maturo.
Nimons has a long and distinguished career as a firefighter, dating back to the early 1980s, when he started his career as a firefighter at the Hotchkiss Hose Company in Derby. He was appointed fire chief of the Derby Fire Department in 2001.
Nimons has been married for 13 years and has two sons; the older, 28, is also a firefighter, and the younger is 13.
Nimons started working as a part-time fire inspector in the East Haven Fire Marshal's Office in 2004. While working for the East Haven Fire Department he was a certified child safety car seat technician for eight years and served on the East Haven Firefighters Local 1205 safety committee for three years. He also ran the East Haven Firefighters Local 1205 Toys for Children program for three years. He has been a member of the New Haven Area Special Hazards Team for the last nine years.
