Four local mystery writers will speak as part of the Lyme Public Libraryís Centennial Lecture series on Friday, September 6 at 7:30 P.M. at the Lyme Congregational Church. James R. Benn, Lucy Burdette, David Handler, and Eugenia West will discuss the art of mystery writing and adapting to the ever-changing world of publishing.
James R. Benn is the author of the Billy Boyle WWII historical mysteries. The eighth novel in the series, A Blind Goddess, will be published in September 2013. His debut novel, Billy Boyle, was short-listed for the Dilys Award and named one of the top five mysteries of 2006. Lucy Burdette (aka Roberta Isleib) is a clinical psychologist and the author of eleven mysteries, most recently the Key West food critic series. Topped Chef was published in May 2013. Lucyís alter-ego, clinical psychologist Roberta Isleib, has published eight mysteries including the golf loverís mystery series and the advice column mysteries. Edgar Award-winner David Handler has written eight novels about celebrity ghostwriter Stewart Hoag and his faithful, neurotic basset hound, Lulu, as well as nine titles in his bestselling series featuring the mismatched crime-fighting duo of New York film critic Mitch Berger and CT State Trooper Desiree Mitry. His publication of Runaway Man this summer is the debut of young Benji Golden, a feisty and street-wise New York private detective. Eugenia West is the author of a historical/suspense, The Ancestors Cry Out and the Emma Streat mysteries Without Warning and Overkill The third Emma Streat mystery is in the works.
