Pottery by Linda Sershen and Mary Bramble Scott
Wednesday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
The Gallery/Shop at Wesleyan Potters will feature pottery by ceramic artists, Linda Sershen of Southington and Mary Bramble Scott of West Hartford. Though the artists share a love for glazing techniques and the various effects produced, they approach ceramics from different angles.
Linda thinks of clay as canvas, with glazing and the interaction of glazes as the most creative part of the process. The result is the “painterly” look of much of her glazing and in certain forms and shapes, such as wide, narrow-based bowls, tea bowls, and decorative wall art. Linda is inspired by the work of other potters, sculpture, and abstract painting.
For Mary, clay has endless possibilities and challenges. Her interests are in surface, texture, sculpting, drawing, and glaze techniques. Mary makes what she calls functional ceramics, useful pieces that are part of our everyday lives. Her work is influenced by nature and reflects the simplicity of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
Visitors can see the expressions of the love for working in clay that Linda Sershen and Mary Bramble Scott share at the Gallery/Shop of Wesleyan Potters, 350 South Main Street, Middletown, CT, from September 12 through October 20. The show opens with a reception on Friday, September 14 from 5-7. Gallery/ Shop hours are: Monday and Tuesday by appointment, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 860-347-5925 or visit the website at www.wesleyanpotters.com, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
