Light Up the Night in Old Lyme

Volunteers with the Old Lyme Historical Society commemorate the bi-centennial of the British raid on Connecticut River shipping in the War of 1812 with the "Light Up the Night" event at the waterfront on Ferry Road in Old Lyme Tuesday April 8, 2014. On April 8th, 1814, the British conducted a raid on the Connecticut River targeting privateers and merchant ships. Local militias and citizens lit bonfires along the river in an attempt to locate and fire on the retreating British ships. Light Up the Night was sponsored and organized the Historical Societies of Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Essex and the Connecticut River Museum.
