DAY NEWSROOM: REPORTERS
Charles T. "Charlie" Clark joined The Day in 2017, the same year he graduated from Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
He covers Ledyard and North Stonington.
Charlie was born in Kansas City, Mo., and grew up Kansas City, Kan., Minneapolis and Phoenix. At ASU, he majored in journalism and psychology, and originally thought he'd become a therapist.
Medical careers run in his family. His father's an eye surgeon for the Indian Health Service in Phoenix. His late grandfather was a physician, too.
"I'm the one who threw a wrench into it," he said.
Reporting internships at The Seattle Times, the Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting and Bloomberg News in New York fanned Charlie's affinity for reporting, particularly the investigative kind. He decided that's what he wanted to do.
"I like the idea of shedding light where there's darkness, giving voice to the voiceless," he said.
Taken with the Pacific Northwest's beauty, Midwesterners' openness and the Southwest's laid-back feel, Charlie said he's had to adjust to New Englanders' reserve. He thinks the food's generally better here and marvels that the portions "are so much bigger" than in other places he's been.
