Pat Richardson

Pat Richardson is the President and Publisher of The Day Publishing Company, which publishes a variety of media titles in the eastern Connecticut region, including The Day, eight community newspapers under The Times community news group and seven newspapers published by Shore Publishing, LLC. In addition, she is responsible for all the newspaper’s digital sites and D2 Media Solutions.

Richardson is a Maine native and began working for a newspaper, The Kennebec Journal, in Augusta , Maine, while in high school. In 1989 she joined Landmark Communications, Inc. in Norfolk, Virginia as an advertising sales representative for The Virginian-Pilot. She served in various management roles at the newspaper until 2003.

In January 2004 Richardson was named corporate advertising director for Landmark Community Newspapers, headquartered in Shelbyville, Kentucky. She was responsible for the advertising & sales performance of 53 community newspapers in thirteen states. During that time, she also served as a regional manager for six Landmark community newspaper companies.

Ms. Richardson was named publisher of Landmark’s community daily newspaper, the Carroll County Times based in Westminster, Maryland in 2007 and added the additional responsibility of publisher for The Capital and Maryland Gazette, serving Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, Maryland in January 2013. Capital Gazette Communications and the Carroll County Times were purchased from Landmark Media Enterprises by The Baltimore Sun in May of 2014. While serving in Maryland Ms. Richardson was recognized in 2014 by the Maryland/Delaware/DC Press Association with the Distinguished Service Award and she was recognized for her civil & human rights leadership with the Fannie Lou Hammer Award from the Annapolis based Martin Luther King Jr. Committee Inc.

Richardson returned to Hampton Roads, and The Virginian-Pilot as president and publisher in October 2014. In 2015, and again in 2016, Ms. Richardson was named to the Inside Business Power List. During her tenure the newspaper was recognized by the Virginia Press Association as the Newspaper of the Year for 2015 and 2016 and received their award for Journalistic Integrity and Community Service in 2015 and 2018. Also, during her time at The Pilot, a reporter was named a 2018 Pulitzer Prize Finalist in Investigative Reporting.

She holds a B.S. degree in business administration from the University of Maine and a MBA from the University of Louisville.

Richardson became President and Publisher of The Day in May 2018.
