Tuna Melt

Though he’s one of the biggest rock stars to ever come out of southeastern Connecticut – which is probably how he’d prefer to be remembered – Peter Detmold, who owns with his esposa Martha the estimable Tavern, makes a sublime tuna melt. Though in general the tuna melt is often impugned as the Foghat of sandwiches, in the capable and barre-chording hands of Detmold, it becomes a star-spangled work of art. Not that he does anything nutty or nouveau – he just does it right. And, at $2.50, it’s one of the bargains of the new century.
