Suspect is charged in Norwich shooting

Norwich A New London man is facing charges in connection with a shooting on Mechanic Street in April.

Kyron M. Sands, 21, of 10 Rosemary St., New London, was charged Wednesday with criminal attempt at first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful use of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit.

Police said no one was injured in the shooting. They also said the individuals involved knew each other.

Sands also faces drug charges on an unrelated incident. He was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of over one-half gram of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of crack cocaine within 1,500 feet of public housing with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, interfering with an officer and resisting arrest.

Police said the drug charges stem from a search of Sands' Norwich apartment conducted under a search warrant for the shooting incident.

He was observed by police in a local parking lot shortly after midnight early Wednesday morning. He fled on foot but police apprehended him at about 12:40 a.m. nearby.

Sands was held on a $250,000 bond and was presented in Norwich Superior Court Wednesday.
