Second guilty plea in Jewett City Arson Case

Nicholas Euell has pleaded guilty to torching the former Jewett City Town Hall in January 2006.

Euell, 20, faces up to six years in prison when he is sentenced for second-degree arson, third-degree larceny and third-degree burglary. He also pleaded guilty today to taking part in the burglary of the Jewett City flea market on the same day that he and Curt Rivard torched the Town Hall and to stealing a car in 2004.

Euell had rejected an initial plea offer from the state, but decided to plead guilty after further discussions between his attorney and the state.

His codefendant, Curt Rivard, is serving a six year sentence for the arson and burglary cases. The former Town Hall, which was being used to store the belongings of people who had been evicted, was destroyed in the fire, and a firefighter who fell off a truck was injured.
