Madison - A woman found dead on the lawn of her beachfront home Wednesday died from multiple sharp- and blunt-force injuries, the office of the Chief State's Medical Examiner said Thursday.

The death of Barbara Hamburg, 48, has been ruled a homicide.

At approximately 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, Madison police received a 911 call reporting an injured person at 44 Middle Beach Road West. Officers and local EMS responded. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed off Middle Beach Road West. The state police Central District Major Crimes Squad assisted in collecting physical and forensic evidence. Guilford and Clinton police also assisted at the scene.

Hamburg was divorced and had two children, one attending Daniel Hand High School and the other a recent graduate of the school. Superintendent of Schools David Klein said school administration and staff are supporting the "students and each other during this very difficult time."

Anyone with any information about the case is asked to contact Madison Police Department (203) 245-2721.
