Hiking Safety Tips
Tips for safe and respectful hiking:
- Sturdy footwear is a must.
- Bring water, even when it's winter or just a short hike.
- Bring a snack or lunch.
- Always carry out what you carry in.
- It's often a good idea to wear a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and insect repellent containing DEET to deter ticks and mosquitoes.
- Tell someone where you're going.
- Stay on marked trails.
- Take only photographs; leave only footprints.
- Print out trail map at home and bring it along, Plan your route.
- Do not disturb archeological or historical sites or wildlife.
- Keep pets under control. Bring a plastic bag to pack out pet waste.
