Cameras eye progress of Niantic bridge project

East Lyme Anyone anywhere can now watch the progress of the Niantic River Bridge replacement project.

The East Lyme Public Trust foundation purchased and installed five video cameras three years ago that provide a live view of the Niantic Bay Overlook (boardwalk), the Hole In The Wall Beach, and the walkway along the eastern bluff of the town's McCook Point Park.

The views can be seen at www.publictrustfoundation.org/webcam.htm.

The cameras show weather and sea conditions at the park, as well as provide views of the bridge replacement project, which is estimated to take three years. Construction started this spring.

The foundation used money provided from its members and grants they received for the equipment. The president of the foundation, Robert DeSanto, said the group is developing a proposal in which the town would need to accept to place three 36-inch monitors around town to show the webcam of the boardwalk. The foundation would purchase the monitors and install them, as well as maintain them in the future.
