Local man found with .45 loaded with hollow point bullets

New London — When police arrested a local man Saturday night they found that he was carrying a .45-caliber pistol loaded with hollow point bullets.

Justin Davenport, 24, of 192 Jefferson Ave. was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, resisting arrest and third-degree criminal trespass. He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

According to police, members of the department's anti-violence team stopped Davenport on Brewer Street at 7:48 p.m. because they suspected him of being involved in drug activity.

Police said Davenport was uncooperative and fled. When police apprehended Davenport they found he had the pistol in his waistband.

Davenport has several previous convictions including one in 2006 for possession of a sawed off shotgun in which he was sentenced to serve 25 months in prison.
