Most important 'King's Speech' rating is an A+

I am writing in response to Kristina Dorsey's blog titled "R for Royalty? Why 'The King's Speech's' rating makes no sense," which ran online Dec. 28.

There have been other pieces about the ratings. However, the most important thing about this movie is how it is putting stuttering in the spotlight. Other major movies have portrayed people who stutter in a negative, stereotypical way; "The King's Speech" addresses the issue with compassion.

Because of the movie, more people, especially children, may seek out speech therapy. Can you believe that virtually the whole country is unaware that every child in the U.S. has the right to free speech therapy from preschool through high school?

The Stuttering Foundation website (www.stutteringhelp.org) has a brochure titled "Special Education Law and Children Who Stutter," which details the free speech therapy that extends to all speech problems. The website of this nonprofit organization has great information and free resources, and a list of famous people who stutter, of which King George VI is the most famous.

I can understand why some people are not pleased with the movie's "R" rating.

Please know that the only rating given to the movie by people in the worldwide stuttering community is an "A+" !
