Guard detachment headed to Balkans

Windsor Locks - An eight-soldier detachment of the Connecticut National Guard's 192nd Engineer Battalion of Stratford has mobilized and will deploy to Kosovo as part of the Balkans 14 rotation.

The soldiers left Jan. 10 from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Windsor Locks to their mobilization station at Camp Atterbury, Ind., for further training and validation.

Their mission is to continue to maintain the safe and secure environment for all of Kosovo under the NATO mandate. The Connecticut soldiers will perform planning, operations, logistics and liaison duties across Kosovo and the Balkans.

The 192nd Engineer Battalion last mobilized and deployed in to Iraq from 2006 to 2007. Four members of the Balkans 14 group previously deployed to Iraq.
