    Montville fires called 'attempted arsons'

Montville – Two fires that were started over the weekend at 24 Old Colchester Road Extension are being called “attempted arsons.”

Fire Marshal Raymond Occhialini said the investigation into the fires has been turned over to the state police Eastern District Major Crime Squad.

Occhialini said the first fire was reported at 11:22 p.m. Saturday while the second one was called in at 8:23 p.m. Sunday.

Occhialini said the house was occupied at the time of both fires. No one was injured.

He said the fire damage was mostly to the exterior of the house. The tenants of the home have since relocated.

He said power to the building has been turned off.

The property is owned by Angela Moreira of Bozrah. She was renting out the house, Occhialini said.

He said the suspect or suspects appeared to have been targeting the property.

“It’s not a neighborhood problem,” said Occhialini. “We do ask people to keep their eyes open.”
