Sentencing delayed for broker in mortgage scam case
Sentencing for Maurizio Lancia, a Trumbull attorney and former mortgage broker tied to Jose Guzman's long-running, New London-based loan scam, has been delayed until Tuesday in Hartford's U.S. District Court.
A hearing scheduled to begin at noon today lasted until almost 5 p.m. before Judge Alfred V. Covello decided to complete sentencing at a later date. Prosecutors are seeking up to 33 months in prison for Lancia, who pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud.
Lancia owned Royal Financial Services in New London, which prosecutors tied to Guzman's multimillion-dollar mortgage fraud. Guzman, a Waterford resident, still awaits sentencing.
