Assure nuke radiation study comprehensive

This is response to the April 5 article, "Millstone data to be used in pilot study of cancer risks."

"At issue is whether incidence higher near nuclear plants"

One of the major problems of such a study is that there are many causes of cancer. How will this study screen for other causes or will the study just assume that increases will be attributed to radiation from nuclear plants?

Should not the first step in such a study determine whether or not there are significant radiation increases around the nuclear plants and what the radiation sources are: Medical X-ray practices? Natural background differences? Number of airplane flights taken by residents from around the nuclear plants? The type of foods consumed by these residents? Smoking habits? etc.

I hope that all of these factors will be considered before coming to a preconceived conclusion.
