    Hot Property: Aug. 24, 2012

    The Venice compound of the late actor, photographer and artist Dennis Hopper has sold for $5 million.

    The property includes an industrial-inspired main house of about 5,000 square feet, a pool house, a guest cottage and three two-story condominiums for a total of seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and 9,595 square feet of living space. The main house, with a corrugated metal exterior, was designed by Brian Murphy; the condominiums, by Frank Gehry.

    Hopper, who died in 2010 at 74, starred in and directed "Easy Rider" (1969). He starred in scores of other films, including "Speed" (1994) and TV shows such as "Crash" (2008-09) and "E-Ring" (2005-06).

    Jane Gavens and Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker's Beverly Hills South office were the listing agents. Assaf Raz of Abbot Kinney Real Estate represented the buyer.

    WHERE TV WRITER HOLDS COURT

    The oceanfront compound of writer-producer Reinhold Weege is on the market at $27.3 million.

    The single-level contemporary estate sits on a 2.6-acre bluff top with views of La Jolla Cove. There are six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms and nearly 15,000 square feet of living space in four buildings.

    Weege, 62, created the sitcom "Night Court," 1984. He wrote for several other series, including "Barney Miller" (1976-79).

    Edward Mracek and Marty Vusich of Willis Allen Real Estate's La Jolla office are the listing agents.

    Screenwriter-director Dan Harris has listed his gated home in the Hollywood Hills West area at $2.395 million.

    The French Normandy-style home, built in 1938, features three bedrooms, 31/2 bathrooms, a wood-paneled library, an updated kitchen with marble counters, coffered ceilings and 3,085 square feet of living space. There is a pool and a spa.

    Public records show Harris bought the property in 2005 for $2.075 million. Earlier owners of the house include Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics and pop star Kylie Minogue.

    Harris, who turns 33 on Aug. 29, was a screenwriter for such action-adventure films as "X2" (2003) and "Superman Returns" (2006) and wrote and directed "Imaginary Heroes" (2004).

    Daniel Lam of Sotheby's International Realty is the listing agent.

    OWLWOOD SOARS ABOVE L.A. PRICES

    At $150 million and $65 million, two palatial houses - neither being marketed through multiple listing services - are quietly sitting atop the for-sale market in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

    Perched at $150 million is the pocket-listed Owlwood estate in Holmby Hills. The Tuscan-style mansion was once the home of '60s singing sensation Sonny and Cher and, before that, actor Tony Curtis.

    When the late billionaire Roland Arnall, founder of Ameriquest Capital Corp., and his wife, Dawn, bought it in 2002, they also nabbed two adjacent properties to increase the grounds to 10 acres.

    The 12,201-square-foot main house, built in 1936, had eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms when last listed on the Multiple Listing Service. There is a tennis court, a pool house and a pool. Area agents have toured the property and seen a brochure, but public relations for the Agency in Beverly Hills is not releasing any details yet.

    The last estate listed at this price in L.A. County was Candy Spelling's Manor, also in Holmby Hills. That 56,500-square-foot mansion, with 14 bedrooms, 27 bathrooms and a 4.7-acre site, sold for $85 million after about two years on the market.

    In Laguna Beach, a one-acre oceanfront compound is being floated at $65 million. Between the neoclassical main house, guesthouse, decks, loggias, storage and garage there is 25,000 square feet of space. Completed in 2010 after an eight-year undertaking, the main house has four bedrooms, two offices, two powder rooms, five fireplaces, a wine cellar and tasting room and a billiards room.

    Rod Daley of Coldwell Banker has the Orange County listing.

    TIGER WOODS SELLS CORONA DEL MAR CONDO

    Professional golfer Tiger Woods has sold his condominium in Corona del Mar for $2,213,875.

    But like many other residential real estate owners, Woods landed in the rough when it came to selling a place bought before the housing downturn. Public records show he bought the property in 2004 for $3 million.

    The town-house-style unit features an open-plan living room on the second story to take advantage of views of Santa Catalina Island. Features include high ceilings, a balcony, three bedrooms, a loft, three bathrooms and 2,000 square feet of living space.

    Woods, 36, once the holder of the top spot in the world of golf, currently is ranked third, according to the PGA Tour website. He is scheduled to play next month at the U.S. Ryder Cup.
