Report: Murphy raises nearly $3 million in the last three months for Senate race

Hartford – New campaign finance reports for the U.S. Senate race show Democrat Chris Murphy with $2.2 million cash on hand at the end of last month.

Murphy received $2.7 million in contributions during the July 26 to Sept. 30 reporting period, bringing his total receipts this election cycle to $8.2 million. Of the new money, $2.3 million came from individuals, $420,000 from political action committees and $612,590 from other contributors.

Murphy's campaign recorded $3 million in expenses during the reporting period, or $6.1 million in total spending this race.

Candidates' reports were due to the Federal Election Commission at midnight Monday. Official numbers for the Republican nominee, Linda McMahon, were not immediately available.

McMahon is running a largely self-finance campaign but is accepting contributions. The wrestling entertainment mogul expended $50 million of fortune in her unsuccessful 2010 Senate run, and has spent at least $15 million this campaign cycle.
