Cumberland, Maine - Brianna Lenehan of Norwich Free Academy finished ninth Saturday at the New England Girls' Cross Country Championship to earn All-New England honors.

Lenehan, a senior who won the Eastern Connecticut Conference and State Open championships this season, finished the 3.1-mile course at the Twin Brook Recreation Center in 19 minutes, 30.06 seconds.

Elle Purrier of Richford, Vt., won the race in 18:42.44.

Henry Wynne of Staples won the 3.1-mile boys' race in 16:12.86.

In other meets:

• The Williams School boys won the New England Prep Division IV championship at Millbrook, N.Y. The Blues finished with 103 points to edge Hyde of Maine by one.

Justin Shafner led the Blues by placing fifth in 18:39 and earned All-New England honors along with Chris Ivimey, who was 17th in 19:17. Also contributing to the victory were Ben Lahm (24th, 19:38), Nathaniel Ryan (27th, 19:42), Tim Marcinek (30th, 19:45), Brien Bradley (31st, 19:46) and Adam Verhoeff (34th, 19:47).

Maddy Lahm finished third in the girls' race for Williams in 22:17 followed by Sarena Shafner (46th, 26:08) and Cassandra Lin (52nd, 26:29).

Boys' soccer

• Second-half goals by Alex Paterson and Anthony Saccone lifted No. 6 Ledyard to a 3-1 victory over No. 22 Sheehan of Wallingford in the Class M second round.

Paterson's goal came in the 47th minute (Christof Wegiel assisted), just two minutes after Sheehan tied the game, and Saccone scored his second goal of the game in the 69th minute to give the Colonels (15-4) some insurance.

Paterson and Zach Higgins assisted on Saccone's goals and goalie Jason Smith made six saves for Ledyard, which will play at ECC Medium Division rival Montville, the No. 3 seed, at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinal round.

• Matt Staehle had a goal and an assist to lead No. 3 Montville to a 3-1 victory over No. 19 Granby Memorial in the Class M second round.

Nick Strecker and Jeff Tryon also scored for the Indians (18-1), who led 2-0 at the half, and goalie Jake Sorensen stopped seven shots.

• Branford's Connor Bradshaw headed in a free kick with 31 seconds remaining as the No. 9 Hornets topped No. 24 East Lyme 2-1 in a Class L first-round game, East Lyme's fourth one-goal loss in the last month. East Lyme (6-9-2) tied the game with 1:30 left on a goal by Alec Aquino.

"It's frustrating," East Lyme coach Paul Christensen said. "In the last month we lost 2-1 to Montville ... went to Bacon and lost in overtime on a penalty kick. We started coming together but we couldn't get over the hump.

"We couldn't buy a break. It was the first season I remember that there was never a penalty kick for us. That's the type of season it was."

• Andrew LaVoie's goal in the 22nd minute gave No. 12 RHAM of Hebron a 1-0 victory over No. 5 Waterford in the Class L second round.

It was a tough loss for the Lancers (13-5-1), who were forced to play without senior captain Elliot Diana in goal due to illness. Max Wolfley, a starting outside midfielder, replaced Diana and made six saves.

Volleyball

• No. 11 Fitch rallied from game point in the first set, down 24-20, to win 30-28, then cruised past No. 6 Mercy of Middletown 25-19 and 25-18 to complete a 3-0 sweep and advance to the Class L quarterfinals.

"We were down 24-20 and a called a timeout," said Fitch coach Steve Banks, whose Falcons will play at No. 3 Bristol Eastern in Tuesday's quarterfinals at 7 p.m. "I just reminded them that good teams come back, and once we came back we played really well. I'm real proud of the way the kids played today."

For Fitch (15-5), Ashley Adams had 12 kills, Taylor Kelsey six kills, Nikki Schoolcraft 25 assists and 14 service points, Ebony Bell 11 service points and Lexis Foster four blocks.

• Defending champion East Lyme advanced to the Class L quarterfinals with a 25-17, 25-9 and 25-16 win over No. 20 Pomperaug of Southbury.

The No. 4 Vikings (19-3), who will host No. 5 Farmington on Tuesday at 7 p.m., were led by Emily Ennis with 10 kills and three aces and Kayla Fobian with 11 kills and eight digs.

• Third-seeded Ledyard advanced to the Class M quarterfinals with a 25-12, 25-8 and 26-24 win over No. 14 Wolcott. Up next for the Colonels (16-5) is a home game against No. 6 Foran of Milford on Monday at 7 p.m.

Alyssa Gregory had nine digs and four kills for Ledyard while Michelle Klinikowski had 15 kills and three blocks, Jenny Nohara had 17 assists and Amy Davis had 17 service points and four aces.

• No. 20 Old Lyme advanced to the Class S quarterfinals with a 25-16, 25-12 and 26-24 win over No. 4 Abbott Tech of Danbury. Paige Palenski had 16 assists and five aces and Lindsey Knepshield six kills and nine digs for the Wildcats, who visit No. 5 Terryville on Monday at 7 p.m.

• No. 7 Seymour eliminated No. 10 Norwich Tech 25-9, 25-20 and 25-19 in the Class S second round. Cami Marion had four blocks, Bailey Spellman two kills, six assists and 12 digs and Kaitlyn Mitchell five digs and three kills for the Warriors.

Diving

• East Lyme junior Caroline Gonsalves was second at the Class M state championship held Friday night at Plainville High School. Gonsalves, the two-time ECC champion, finished with 417.90 points. East Lyme's Annmarie Durham was sixth (290.85) and teammate Hanna Suarez seventh (281.00). The Class M swimming championship, featuring East Lyme, Ledyard and Fitch, will be held Tuesday night at Wesleyan University.

• Katherine Tsiouris of Waterford was eighth at the Class S state championship Friday night at Plainville. Tsiouris, a sophomore, finished with 247.30 points.

Field hockey

• No. 6 Stonington's Class S state quarterfinal game against No. 14 Granby Memorial will be held at 2 p.m. today at Stonington. Granby, the defending Class S champion, topped No. 3 Thomaston on Saturday, 3-1.
