Local roundup: Pointers, Bears women's basketball on the winning end

Groton - Kim Bouten scored 25 points to lead the UConn-Avery Point women's basketball team to an 84-43 win over Springfield Tech on Thursday night.

Also scoring in double figures for the Pointers (3-2) were Mikayla Wells (15), Jackie Riera (12), Ryanne Paige (11) and Alex Marchinkoski (10).

In another game:

• Freshmen Meghan Fornaro and Victoria Sutherland combined for 32 points as Coast Guard beat Mitchell College 76-36, giving former Norwich Free Academy standout Alex Ivansheck her first win as head coach at Coast Guard.

Larla Brown had 11 rebounds, Fornaro scored a game-high 18 and Sutherland had 14 points and 13 rebounds for Coast Guard. Kaylee Cerruto and Zilka Navarro scored 11 points each for Mitchell. It was the season opener for both teams.

Tigers release 2013 schedule

• The Connecticut Tigers' fourth season, which will be highlighted by hosting the New York-Penn League All-Star Game at Dodd Stadium, begins Monday, June 17 against the Lowell Spinners, according to the team's schedule released Thursday.

The all-star game is scheduled for Aug. 13. The schedule also features six Friday fireworks games and five Saturday promotional giveaways.

"Our fourth season at Dodd Stadium is really starting to shape up," Tigers Vice President/General Manager C.J. Knudsen said. "We are continuing to focus our efforts on providing a high-quality affordable entertainment option for families throughout Connecticut, while bringing the 2013 All-Star Celebration Game to Dodd Stadium."

East Lyme schedule changes

• The CIAC Class L girls' soccer tournament semifinal between East Lyme and Masuk of Monroe has been moved up an hour. Saturday's game will now begin at 2:30 p.m., at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury.

Also, East Lyme hosts St. Bernard/Norwich Tech in football today at 6:30 p.m., at Montville High School. East Lyme's turf field is not ready to play on as of yet.
