Waterford - Russ Smith of Amity Construction & Design was named Builder of the Year and Denise Nott of Nutmeg Building and Remodeling took home her third Remodeler of the Year award as local homebuilders handed out industry honors Friday during an annual meeting at Great Neck Country Club.

Also honored during the Builders and Remodelers Association of Eastern Connecticut's awards night were Tom Londregan, named Associate of the Year; Dave Hammerstrom of Chelsea Groton Bank, added to the local Housing Hall of Fame, and Gary Wolinski from Overhead Door Co. of Norwich and Tony Calistro of Ring's End Lumber, who were given distinguished service awards.

Old Lyme-based Amity Construction has been a member of the local builders association since 2001 and has won awards from the statewide Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Connecticut. The firm, headed by Smith, is certified as a green builder by the National Association of Home Builders.

Wolinski, a past president of the association, helped organize the Premiere Home Show and will be one of its major sponsors. Calistro, director of education at Ring's End, helps keep builders and remodelers up to date on a variety of building and technology topics.

Hammerstrom, with more than 40 years of banking experience, has served on the association's board of directors since 2004 and has been a vice president of the board for the past six years. He received the association's distinguished service award in 2007.

Also, a new slate of officers was elected for the coming year. James Williams of T. F. Buxton Ltd., president; Andrew J. Gil of Mystic River Building Co., vice president; Dino Tudisca of Exterior Solutions, secretary; Gail Grillo of Marvel Home Decorating, associate vice president; Matt Nick of J.H.
