Driver involved in Gales Ferry crash charged with DUI

Ledyard -- One of the drivers involved in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon on Route 12 has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
According to a release from the Ledyard Police Department, Joshua M. Olsen, 33, of 21 Sherman St., Norwich, was driving a 1989 GMC south on Route 12 when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2002 Dodge operated by Roger Kaufman, 69, of 10 Sachem Road, Uncasville, which was traveling north.
Police said they received multiple 911 calls about the crash, which occurred at about 2:21 p.m. at the intersection of Christy Hill Road in Gales Ferry.
No drivers or passengers had to be taken by ambulance, police said. Besides Ledyard police the Gales Ferry and Ledyard fire departments, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad and Lawrence & Memorial Hospital paramedics responded.
Olsen, who was also charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive right and failure to maintain insurance, was processed and released. He is scheduled to appear in the GA 10 court in New London court on Dec. 28.
