The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has cleared Ledyard High School of recruiting allegations filed by New London and principal Tommy Thompson earlier this month.

Thompson said Friday he was "satisfied" with the result of the CIAC's investigation.

"Hopefully, it won't happen again," Thompson said.

The complaint, according to multiple sources, involved a youth football player in New London and his relationship with a Ledyard coach. The player attends middle school in New London. Sources say the player and his parents are unsure of where the player will attend high school.

High school coaches, including coaches in the same school system, are not allowed to speak to prospective players about high school plans under CIAC rules.

Ledyard conducted an internal investigation and sent its findings to the CIAC.

"We take these allegations very seriously and stand behind the findings from the CIAC," Ledyard athletic director Jim Buonocore wrote in a statement to The Day. "Our coaching staff respects and adheres to our league and state rules and regulations.

"Ledyard is a school of choice that has a top notch academic, athletic and social offering for young people in southeastern Connecticut. The success of our school in all three areas speaks for itself. We have an outstanding school and do not have to sell to people what we are all about."

New London and Ledyard have mechanisms in place to attract students from surrounding towns: Ledyard's Agri-Science program and New London's Science and Technology Magnet School.
