New London man charged in assault at Groton party

Groton — Town police on Thursday arrested a New London man on multiple charges, including first-degree assault, for his alleged role in an assault that occurred during an out-of-control party in Groton this summer.

Glenn M. Shaw, 19, of 84 Rosemary St. in New London, is one of several men police say took part in the Aug. 4 beating of a man outside a home at 40 Antonino Road in Groton.

Police responded to the home shortly before midnight to find a large group gathered and several men bleeding from their heads, according to the arrest warrant affidavit in the case. Three people were hospitalized.

Police say Shaw was identified by witnesses as one of the men who threw rocks and later participated in beating one of the homeowners, who was being held on the ground. The victim, who had tried to scare off people who showed up uninvited to the party, sustained a scalp laceration, concussion and multiple contusions, according to the affidavit.

Shaw was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief and breach of peace. He was arraigned in New London Superior Court on Friday and was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

Shaw is due back in court on Monday.
