Waterford — Police say their Facebook posting helped them arrest two people who allegedly stole a purse out of a locked car early Monday morning and then tried to use stolen credit cards at Walmart.

Robert Wall, 48, of Nashua, N.H., and Shannon Flood, 35, of Lowell, Mass., are considered suspects in similar crimes in Waterford, surrounding towns and possibly across state lines, said Lt. Brett Mahoney.

Mahoney said several pieces of evidence were recovered during their Monday afternoon arrests at a local motel.

 Wall and Flood were each charged with third-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny but “the list of charges in expected to grow as more victims are identified,” Lt. David Burton wrote in a press release.

In Monday’s “smash and grab” crime, Mahoney said, the pair stole a purse around 3:30 or 4 a.m. from a locked car in the parking lot of the Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 85. It appears they then took stolen credit cards to Walmart and tried to buy items but were denied by a cashier. Detectives took still shots of the suspects and their vehicle from surveillance video at Walmart, posted them to department’s Facebook page and received a tip that led to the arrest around noon, Mahoney said.

Recovered were “numerous stolen items, numerous stolen purses,” Mahoney said, including “other items from things they’d stolen from other incidents that we are investigating already.”

“One case solved a lot of cases for us, but it will be days for them to go through all the evidence,” Mahoney said.

Wall and Flood are both held in lieu of a $100,000 bond pending a New London Superior Court appearance on Wednesday.
