UPDATED: Holiday operation yields drunken driving arrests, traffic violations

State police made 44 drunken driving arrests and issued 576 speeding tickets as part of its New Year's enforcement campaign that began midnight Saturday and ended on midnight Wednesday.

State police were assigned to patrol both highways and secondary roadways. Police reported 419 accidents with 41 injuries. They also issued 42 infractions for seat belt violations and another 1,129 citations for hazardous moving violations.
