    Three hurt in head-on crash in Gales Ferry

    Ledyard - Several police and fire units responded to a two-vehicle, head-on crash early Saturday morning in Gales Ferry. Two people were taken to the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich and a third to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.

    Police said that at about 3:30 a.m. on Route 12 between Anderson Drive and the Gales Ferry Fire Company, a Jeep Wrangler driven north by Nathaniel Rosseel, 24, of the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, struck a southbound Acura being driven by Alexandria Springer, 26, of Groton.

    Due to extensive damage to her car, Springer had to be extricated. Police said she suffered multiple injuries and was taken to Backus. A passenger in her vehicle, Olga Revis, 21, of Gales Ferry was taken to L&M.

    Rosseel also was taken to Backus Hospital.

    None of the injuries was life threatening, according to a spokesperson at Troop E in Montville.

    The Gales Ferry Fire Company, Ledyard Fire Department, Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad, Submarine Base Fire Department Ambulance, American Ambulance, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital Paramedic and Ledyard Police Department responded.

    The Ledyard Police Accident Reconstruction team continues to investigate the cause of the accident. Anyone who may have witnessed or has information related to the accident is asked to call Officer Eric Bushor at (860) 464-6400.
