The law: Innocent until proven guilty

I was disturbed by your front page article regarding Stonington DWI arrests, "Stonington DWI arrests drop in spite of vigilance by police," (Jan. 15). The article seemed to suggest that an arrest for DWI is a conviction. What has happened to our justice system where one is innocent until proved guilty?

For the record, I know of at least one case several years ago where an arrest was made but had to be dropped a few hours later. The results of the driver's blood alcohol test proved that the level was well within the legal limits. Unfortunately, the arrest was written up in The Day but was never retracted.
