Parents of SHS students could be target of scam

Stonington – Police and school officials are cautioning parents of Stonington High School students of a possible scam in which letters they may receive offer them a chance to sign up for an honor society for $60.

Assistant Principal Mark Friese said Thursday evening that two parents reported receiving letters with the handwritten name of the school as the return address. Friese said the letters were not sent out by the school.

Friese said the school alerted parents Thursday to the letter. He said the school is looking into the source of the letters and will forward them to police.
