Clinton, N.Y. - Tara Gabelman scored Connecticut College's final seven points as the Camels beat Hamilton College, 51-46, in an important New England Small College Athletic Conference women's basketball game Friday night.

Conn (8-12, 3-5) moved into a tie for sixth place in the NESCAC with two games remaining. The top eight schools qualify for the NESCAC tournament. The Camels close out their season at home next weekend against Bowdoin and Colby.

Conn was clinging to a 46-45 lead with 1:14 remaining before ending the game on a 5-1 run. Gabelman, who finished with 23 points and nine rebounds, converted a layup to make it 48-45 and then went 3-for-4 from the line in the closing seconds.

Aly Boyle added nine points and seven rebounds for the Camels.

Men's basketball

• Hamilton held off Conn College in the second half for a 60-57 NESCAC win. Matt Vadas led the Camels (7-14, 0-8) with 20 points and 10 rebounds while Jared Shill added 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Men's hockey

• Tim DiPretoro had a pair of goals 2:36 apart as Conn College beat Tufts, 5-2, in the NESCAC. J.C. Cangelosi and Kevin Reich each had a goal and an assist for Conn (6-10-3, 2-8-3) and Keith Veronesi added four assists. Also, Tom Conlin had 36 saves.

H.S. swimming

• Christian Berg, Sam Kokomoor, Adian Ely and Dakota Williams of Fitch won the final event, the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.28), to give the Falcons an 86-84 win over Norwich Free Academy in the Eastern Connecticut Conference. NFA's 200 freestyle relay team of Aidan Karam, Jonathan Yuen, Tyler Keith and Walker Cook set a school record in that event (1:37.29). Berg won the 200 freestyle (1:56.21) and 100 backstroke (58.72) for the Falcons (3-5, 3-5). NFA is 4-8, 2-7.

• Eric Stirtan was part of two winning relays teams as East Lyme beat Hand 104-81 in a nonconference meet. Stirtan teamed with Daniel Munch, Evan Opsahl and Ben Biondi to win the 200-yard medley relay and Sam Magna, Austin Toback and Billy Dumais to capture the 200 freestyle relay. Opsahl (200 IM), Magna (50 free), Dylan Luce (diving) and Zachary Kosakowski (100 breastroke) were also individual winners for the Vikings (10-1) and Kevin Sullivan scored 160.55 points in diving to qualify for the Class M state meet.

• Alex Orf won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle to help lead Ledyard-Stonington past New London, 96-49, in the ECC. Orf won the 50 in 26.57 and the 100 in 59.13 for Ledyard (8-1, 7-1). New London is 0-8, 0-8.

H.S. wrestling

• Bryan Brown's 11-5 decision at 113 pounds clinched Fitch's 33-27 victory over Masuk during a quad meet at Fairfield Warde. The Falcons lost to Warde (65-3) and New Canaan (54-30). Jordan Kenyon (160) won all three matches for Fitch (6-24) while Billy Goff (138) and Sean Blais (170) each went 2-1.

College indoor track

• Coast Guard Academy junior Clay Tosack is in fifth place after the first day of the Tufts men's hepatathlon. Kosack has 2,310 points and had three personal bests in four events. He finished the 60-meter dash in 7.58 seconds, went 18 feet, 9¼ inches in the long jump and cleared 5-4½ in the high jump. He also won the shot put (39-5).

In the women's pentathlon, Coast Guard junior Abby Bishop is second with 2,944 points. She finished the 60 hurdles in 9.87 seconds, had a personal best in the high jump (4-10½), went 16-¾ in the long jump, 29-5½ in the shot put and ran the 800 in 2:37.45.
