    The Leadership Legacy Experience and The Office of Community Outreach are pleased to host the President of the Center for National Policy, Scott Bates to discuss his work on democracy and development both domestically and internationally. Bates will be exploring the strategic challenges of the geo-political landscape in a changing world and the impact these challenges have on democracy initiatives both nationally and abroad.

    This event, “Defending Democracy Abroad and Protecting Democracy at Home”, will be held on Monday, February 18th at 6:00 pm in Lecture Room 101 of Laurel Hall on the Storrs, CT campus. As the current President of the Center for National Policy, Scott Bates has served in leadership roles at the state, national and international levels in policy development and government for over twenty years. Bates has been on the ground in every war zone where American troops have fought in this generation. Bates will share his experiences working with elected leaders and activists alike to build democracy and good governance in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Bosnia, Haiti and the Persian Gulf.

    Admission to this event is free. All members of the community are welcomed to attend this lecture.

    The Leadership Legacy Experience is the University’s most prestigious leadership development program; through lectures, discussions and presentations, the Leadership Legacy Speaker Series offers the campus community access to renowned scholars and leaders who explore critical issues of the day. The Office of Community Outreach offers students opportunities to engage in service related activities and prepare students to be active global citizens that enhance the quality of life for others and themselves.
